PROGRAMME:

1st day TALLINN
Day of arrival to the charming Hanseatic city Tallinn. Transfer to the hotel. The afternoon is at your free disposal, so you have the possibility to enjoy the beauty of the city.

2nd day TALLINN- FULL-DAY EXCURSION PROGRAM
Breakfast at the hotel.
The day begins with walking tour in the Tallinn’s old town. Tallinn was first mentioned in 1154 by Arabic geographer al-Idrisi under the name of Kolõvan. In the 14th century the Tallinn’s town walls reached their final size, in the 16th century it was one of the most powerful fortresses in Northern Europe. From the middle-age towns Tallinn has most illustratively maintained its 15th century outlook with its churches, the City Hall (1404), the Guild buildings and numerous civic houses.
First you will visit Toompea (the Dome Hill). The high limestone plateau with the old knight castle marks the beginning of the city. There is also situated a palace, where nowadays Estonia’s parliament and government are housed. Nearby is the Dome church, the oldest church in the town.
Worth looking are: the St.Nicholas church, where there is a museum of middle-age art and the only gothic City Hall in the Northern Europe etc. If you have time and interest, you can also visit  St.Olaf’s church.
Free time or Optional tour to Rocca al Mare open Air museum. On a wooded coastal headland in the western part of Tallinn (ca 10 km from the centre), the museum presents a fine collection of 18th and 19th century rural architecture from all over Estonia. Nearly 100 farm buildings, wooden church (17th c), tavern and mills are grouped in a village setting to present an accurate idea of Estonian peasant life as it was. Exhibitions installed in the buildings range from farm architecture to the 1949 deportations.

3rd day  TALLINN-PÄRNU-RIGA

After breakfast you will continue your trip towards Latvia along and finally you will arrive in the popular beach and holiday resort- Pärnu. Pärnu is a town of lime-trees, parks and see and was founded in 1251. In the 14th century the town joined Hanseatic league. You will have a brief stop in this charming old resort at the Baltic see.

4th day RIGA- TRIP TO THE LIVONIAN SWITZERLAND
Breakfast at the hotel.
You will continue your roundtrip with excursion to the “Livonian Switzerland”, the charming landscape under nature protection, on the primeval valley of river Gauja. In Sigulda you can imagine yourself being back in order times as you see the ruins of an order castle from the 13th century.  Also, the lovely sight of the Gauja valley will carry your thoughts away. In this picturesque region you see the Bishop’s castle of Turaida; aside is the Dainas-hill with fifteen symbolical sculptures by Indulis Ranka, also the “Cave of Gutman”, where already the old Livonians have sacrified and prayed and where in the cave walls there are some scribbles and verses already from the 17th century.

5th day RIGA- HALF-DAY EXCURSION PROGRAM

Your groupleader will make you acquainted with Riga. Here you can reach almost all the sights by foot. You will see the biggest church complex of buildings in the Baltics: the tower of St.Peter’s church and the Dome square with Dome cathedral; the statue of freedom, a symbol of independence pursuit of Latvians; the Swedish gate; the Powder tower; the Jacob’s church; the big and the small Guild; the “three Brothers”. Surely, from time to time, you will come upon Art Nouveau Jugend style buildings as there should be altogether ca 700 to 800 houses in Art Nouveau style in the city (and every house is a jewel!).

6th day RIGA-HILL OF CROSSES-VILNIUS
After breakfast you will continue your trip to the Hill of Crosses, one of the most unforgettable and emotional sites in Lithuania. More than 50 000 crosses are a testimony of the spirit of the Lithuanian people and the place has been the destination for pilgrims, and has survived even the Soviet times. Walking on the hill across a narrow path you can see numerous crosses on your left and right, crosses of wood, iron, amber, stone, brass and silver.

7 th day VILNIUS- CITY SIGHTSEEING AND TRIP TO TRAKAI

Vilnius is architecturally a phenomena - the “Pearl of the North”.
The historical heart - the Old town - is one of the largest in East Europe (296 ha). Most important sights are: Cathedral square with Dome church and clock-tower; a masterpiece of late Gothic style - the St Anne’s church; the St Bernhardin’s monastery; the striking memorial of Renaissance style - the St Michael’s church; the unforgettable alleys of the old Vilnius -  Bernhardin, Skapo and the Main street Pilies; the courtyards and the palace of the Vilnius university; a masterpiece of Baroque architecture - the St.Peter and Paul’s Church with its over 2000 biblical, mythological and historical statues; the Gediminas-tower with lookout-platform where one can get a lovely view over the panorama of the city etc.
Lunch in Trakai.
In the afternoon you take a trip to Trakai (27 km from Vilnius), a town that is situated in a lake district and lies on a narrow cape between 3 lakes, and that is famous for the impressive castle, only of the kind in Europe.

8th day VILNIUS- DEPARTURE
